The Libyan national football team secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Rwanda on Thursday evening in Kigali during the fifth round of qualifiers for the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Morocco next year.

Substitute player Fahd Al-Mesmari scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute, earning Libya three valuable points.

Following this win, Libya now sits fourth in the group with four points. Nigeria leads with ten points, followed by Benin with six points, and Rwanda in third with five points.

Libya's hopes for qualification are alive but depend on defeating Benin in Tripoli next Monday. Additionally, Nigeria must either win or draw against Rwanda on the same day to secure Libya's place in the tournament.
