Libyan Consulate in Istanbul has reassured the Libyan and Arab sports fans that the health condition of the Libyan footballer, Tariq Al-Taeb, is stable and not a cause for concern.

The consulate said in a statement, on Thursday, that it followed up the news circulated about the health condition of Al-Taeb, and that the Consul General, Salah Al-Deen Al-Kaseh, accompanied by a number of Libyan Embassy and the Consulate General staff, visited the player to be reassured about his health.

 Al-Taeb initial medical examinations showed that his condition is stable and not a cause for concern, and the Consulate is following-up his condition and is in constant contact with the medical team, the Consulate added.

Sports activists said that on Thursday morning, Al-Taeb suffered acute stroke, after which he was transferred to hospital in Turkey for treatment, as calls for his recovery poured in, through tweets on social media.

Al-Taeb is one of the most prominent football players in Libya, the Arab and African region. He played for Al-Ahly in Tripoli in 1994 before moving to Portugal.

Then, he joined few Tunisian football clubs such as  Sfaxien, Etoile du Sahel, then to the Tunisian Club Africain, and then returned to the Tunisian club Sfaxien for the 2002-2003 season, with which he won the Arab Club Championship in 2004.

He also played for the Turkish club Gaziantepspor, and the Saudi club Al Hilal with which he won many titles. He also joined the Saudi Al Shabab Club.
