The Head of the Libyan Olympic Committee, Jamal Al-Zarouk, confirmed that the committee is considering withdrawing from The Olympic Games that will take place in Rio de Janeiro next August.

Al-Zarouk explained, in a presser Sunday, that the financial problems the committee is going through as well as receiving no funds from the state government for roughly three years are the main reasons why the committee could withdraw from the Olympic Games.

He added that since he was elected as a Head for the Libyan Olympic Committee in 2014, he had been focusing on sports games in all over the country despite receiving zero support from the Youths and Sports Ministry and the General Commission for Sports.

“The Financial problems are there because Al-Madar Al-Jadeed mobile phone company has not paid off the Olympic Committee’s dues in return for the properties it rented from the committee, and those dues reached more than LYD2 million at the end of 2015.” Al-Zarouk indicated.

He pointed out that the Olympic Committee has held many meetings with Al-Madar Al-Jadeed to draw its attention to the right of the committee to receive its dues, saying that the committee has friendly called on the company to pay, but it hasn’t.
