The Chairman of the Prices Balancing Fund, Jamal Al-Shibani, confirmed that the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) agreed to cover the costs of some foods that the fund aims to import as part of “foods baskets” to be sold to citizens by affordable prices.

Talking to the press, Al-Shibani said the fund will start importing the foods and nourishment goods in part according to the availability of the financial assistance given by the CBL, adding that the number of the imported foods and goods will be modest given the financial situation the fund is facing.

“The Request for Quotations (RFQ) will be sent to the companies next week awaiting their response.” He added.

He indicated that the CBL had previously conditioned funding the importation of the foods and goods to knowing the details of the importation process, “which was given to it,” according to Al-Shibani.

“The first CBL-covered importation process is worth 100 million dinars out of a total of 300 million dinars approved by the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government to import 11 basic goods to Libyans with affordable prices amid the current unbelievable rocketing of prices.” Al-Shibani concluded.
