The head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Abdoulaye Bathily, discussed with Khalifa Haftar the latest developments in the situation in Libya.

This came during a meeting held on Monday in the city of Benghazi, during which Bathily and Haftar reviewed the overall security landscape considering the regional situation and emphasized the need to implement relevant Security Council resolutions pertaining to foreign forces, foreign fighters, and mercenaries to ensure a safe, stable, and prosperous Libya, according to a statement by the UN mission.

Both sides agreed on the necessity to accelerate our collective efforts to put the country on the electoral track as soon as possible, and to unify Libyan institutions.
