The first annual exhibition of dates kicked off Saturday at the old town of Awjila, northeastern Libya, under the supervision of the Municipal Council of Awjila and the Awjila Heritage Society, and with the sponsorship of the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture of Benghazi. 

The Municipal Council of Awjila explained that the aim of the exhibition is to expand the marketing process of local companies producing dates in the town, noting that the Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture will provide support to local companies to facilitate their participation in international exhibitions.

The Municipality of Awjila has been characterized by its large and distinctive participation in local and international exhibitions of dates.

It also organized several previous exhibitions that included a wide range and rare kinds of dates that exceeded 100 varieties.
