The Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, issued an official decision on Wednesday, June 30, to abolish the ‘General Authority for Electricity and Renewable Energy’ (GAERE), which was established by the former interim government in eastern Libya.

According to the decision, which was published on the official platform of the government “Our Government” (Hakoomitna), all resources and assets of the GAERE will be automatically transferred to the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL).

It is worth noting that the GAERE was a parallel entity to the GECOL and was established by the then coexisting government in eastern Libya, during the period of institutional division, which the country has been plagued with since 2014.
