Egypt has welcomed the appointment of Senegalese diplomat Abdoulaye Bathily as new UN envoy to Libya and Head of UNSMIL, adding in a statement for the country's Foreign Ministry that Cairo wishes Bathily success in his new task and resolving challenges in Libya as per Security Council resolutions and international agreements.

The statement expressed Cairo's readiness to work with and support the new Special Representative to Libya in order to lead international efforts towards resolving the crisis in Libya in accordance with a Libyan will that fulfills the aspirations of the Libyan people.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry reiterated Cairo's support for the United Nations’ efforts to reach a Libyan-Libyan political solution that leads to ending the political crisis and holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously as soon as possible, in addition to the departure of all foreign forces, mercenaries and foreign fighters from Libya in a specified period of time in a way that preserves Libya's stability, security, unity and territorial integrity.
