European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson has confirmed that the number of migrants coming from Libya has increased significantly, with a decrease of approximately 80-90% in the number of arrivals from Tunisia after the European Union signed an agreement with it on migration last July.
Johansson's statements come on the occasion of the international conference on the Global Alliance to Combat Migrant Smuggling in Brussels, which includes representatives of 57 countries.
Libya and Tunisia are considered the main starting points for thousands of illegal migrants to reach the Old Continent through Italy.
