The President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani, has called for the need to create what he described as “hotspots” in Libya, Tunisia and other countries to receive illegal immigrants.

He was quoted by the Italian news agency AKI as saying that he refused to close Italian ports to the vessels of humanitarian organizations that save migrants in the Mediterranean.

Tajani has earlier proposed a European-Libyan development plan similar to the European-Turkish plan to combat migration by allocation of 6 billion euros to close the migration route passing through the Mediterranean region and a long-term investment of 50 to 60 billion for all Africa to counter migration.
