Five people died on Saturday by drowning in the city of Sirte, due to severe turbulence in the sea currents, whilst three others were rescued.

The dead people were four from one family, two men and two women, while the other one died while trying to save them.

The local authorities in some areas of western Libya warned citizens not to swim, particularly these days, due to severe turbulence in the sea currents, along with unexpected whirlpools which may cause loss of life.

On Thursday, the Tajoura Maritime Office announced the death of two people who drowned and the rescue of three others.
