The outgoing British ambassador to Libya, Nicholas Hopton, reiterated the relevance of the upcoming elections as being a new beginning on the road to stability, calling for the results to be respected and measures to be taken against those obstructing the peace process.

Hopton, at the conclusion of his official duties as his country’s ambassador to Libya, called on the international community to unite in assisting Libya to restore its full sovereignty adding that Libyan leaders, along with the government bear the responsibility in providing services to all Libyan citizens and to support the rule of law in leading reconciliation efforts.

He added, prior to handing over his duties, that his country would continue, along with its international partners, to closely monitor developments, in order to provide support to all Libyans, so that Libya can achieve its deserved future.
