The Ministry of Transport has inaugurated its first on-site customs yard at the Ras Ajdair land border crossing with Tunusia since its establishment in 1936, aiming to boost its role as a major trade and transit hub in North Africa.
According to the Hakomitna platform, the facility spans 220,000 square meters and includes modern customs infrastructure such as inspection stations, weighing scales, truck lanes, watchtowers, and a security perimeter built to international standards.
Officials say the project will enhance efficiency at the border crossing, replacing previous customs operations that took place in makeshift, unequipped areas outside the port.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to position Ras Ajdair as one of Africa’s largest land ports and strengthen Libya’s economic ties with regional partners.
