Libya has welcomed the adoption of the resolution presented by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, titled “Measures to Combat Islamophobia” which was adopted at the United Nations General Assembly last Friday.

The resolution calls for the appointment of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, tasked with combating Islamophobia. The UN resolution also condemned incitement to discrimination, hostility, or violence against Muslims.

The Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations also participated in a celebration marking the International Day for Combating Islamophobia and called for taking international measures to combat incitement to all forms of hatred, discrimination and violence on the basis of religion, rejecting actions that deliberately aim to insult the Islamic religion, such as burning the Holy Quran.
