The Libyan Council of Elders expressed their concern regarding what they described as serious violations of human rights, kidnapping, torture and arbitrary detention against the population in the city of Derna.

The council also expressed in a statement made on Wednesday, their displeasure at the military escalation in the oil crescent region, calling on all wise people in the region to intervene.

The Libyan Council of Elders called on all parties to spare the capital Tripoli from any armed or political conflicts and to preserve the lives of citizens and public and private property.
