The Swiss Federal Office for Culture handed over, Tuesday, to the Libyan Embassy in Bern an artifact smuggled from Libya since 2016, the Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity announced.
The Ministry explained on its Facebook page that the smuggled artifact is the “Head of Aphrodite,” and it was delivered in a ceremony held in the presence of representatives of the Swiss Federal Office and the Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry noted the joint efforts and coordination between the Antiquities Authority, the Ministry, and the Libyan Embassy in the Swiss Confederation in this regard.
The Foreign Ministry of the Government of National Unity, stressed its continued communication and coordination with the relevant authorities in the Libyan state, to complement their efforts in following up on smuggled antiquities wherever they are found, and returning them to the homeland safely.
