Foreign Minister of Libya Najla Al-Mangoush, among 12 women around the world, has received the 2022 International Women of Courage Award, presented by the US Department of State for showing exceptional courage and leadership to make a difference in their communities.
US Secretary of State Antony J Blinken will host the awards ceremony on March 14 in a virtual ceremony to honour the 12 women selected for the award.
Al-Mangoush became the first woman Foreign Minister of Libya and the fifth to hold such a position in North Africa.
During Libya’s 2011 Revolution, she headed the National Transitional Council’s Public Engagement Unit which dealt with civil society organizations.
