Libyan weightlifter Mohamed Al-Sahli smashed the world record in the bench press, lifting 270 kg and setting a new benchmark by surpassing the previous record by 12 kg.
This remarkable feat earned Al-Sahli a gold and a bronze medal at the World Youth Championship in Malta, making him the first Libyan athlete to enter the global record books in this discipline.
In a strong showing for Libya, fellow athlete Ali Al-Gharyani secured fourth place in the under-59 kg junior category, facing stiff competition from 14 international competitors.
Libya’s team, coached by Tarek Makhlouf, is represented by four talented athletes in Malta, with Al-Sahli leading the charge in the 66 kg category, alongside Al-Gharyani in the 59 kg, Mohamed Al-Karmi in the 93 kg, and Mohamed Al-Zawi in the over-120 kg category.
