The US envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, said the deteriorating regional security situation in Libya lends more importance than ever to diplomacy, development, and defense supporting Libya in forming a civilian-led unified military capable of protecting Libyan sovereignty and stability.

After a meeting with the commander of the US Africa Command (AFRICOM) Michael Langley, along with the deputy for civilian-military engagement, Ambassador Young, in Stuttgart.

Norland met on Thursday with Congolese President Sassou Nguesso, and assured him of his country's support, the efforts of the United Nations and the African Union to bring together the Libyan parties in order to hold parliamentary and presidential elections to unify the country.
