The Public Prosecution announced the detention of a former director of the Specialized Surgery Centre in Benghazi on charges of importing a medical device that does not meet specifications, worth 1.5 million dinars, causing damage to the medical facility.

In a statement, the Attorney General's Office said the anti-corruption prosecution within the Benghazi Court of Appeal jurisdiction investigated a report revealing irregularities in the medical service at the Specialized Surgery Center due to receiving a medical device intended for kidney stone treatment in violation of the contracting system.

According to the report, investigations revealed a malfunction in one of the device components, despite the official's approval of 1.5 million dinars to the supplying company, knowing that the device did not meet the agreed specifications.

The office confirmed that the defendant is being held in custody pending further investigations.
