The Zueitina Oil Company announced on Monday that it had contained an oil spill at the Zueitina port on the Gulf of Sirte, 180 kilometers southwest of Benghazi.

The company said in a statement that the environmental protection department, in cooperation with the port's general maintenance department, had contained and collected the spilled oil on the beach. The spill occurred during a loading operation at one of the floating hoses on the Charlie line.

Zueitina port exports account for about 20% of Libya's total crude oil exports.

The Company supplies the local market with most of its liquefied gas needs, through the Brega Petroleum Marketing Company. It also exports some of it to other countries.
