Locals from the city of Zuwara organized a protest Tuesday, to denounce the Education Minister decision, with respect to excluding the Amazigh language from the general education curriculum and making it a non-essential subject.

The protesters stressed in a statement that the teaching of Amazigh language is a fundamental right and not a matter to be submitted for a referendum.

"The Amazigh language is a basic school subject in Amazigh-speaking regions and any decision contrary to that, shall not be counted," the statement read.
