The Chairman of the Administrative Council and the Acting Financial Controller of the Benina Municipality have been taken into custody by the Public Prosecution for alleged corruption.

The Attorney General, along with the Anti-Corruption Prosecution within the Benghazi Court of Appeal, initiated an investigation into the actions of the Executive Council official and the financial controller of the municipality, due to suspected deviation.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office stated on its Facebook page that initial inquiries revealed that the defendants intentionally falsified data related to salary disbursement to non-municipal employees.

According to the report, the defendants disbursed an amount of 214.9 thousand dinars as rewards to people who do not hold public office.
