The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has named Hanna Serwaa Tetteh as his Special Representative to Libya and head of the UN mission in the country.
The announcement follows Russia’s withdrawal of its objection to Tetteh’s appointment, which it had previously lodged with the UN, according to diplomatic sources.
Tetteh had previously served as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa (2022-2024) and as Special Representative to the African Union (2018-2020).
In addition to her UN roles, she served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2013 to 2017 and led the government from 2014 to 2015.
