The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet has appointed members of the independent fact-finding mission on Libya, established by the UN Human Rights Council (HRC) in late June.

"This body of experts will serve as an essential mechanism to effectively address the widespread impunity for human rights violations and abuses committed, and can also serve as a deterrent to prevent further violations and contribute to peace and stability in the country,” said Bachelet.

The mission will be headed by former Moroccan Minister of Justice, Mohamed Aujar, in addition to members from Jamaica, Zambia and the United Kingdom, according to a statement by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

The fact-finding mission will provide an oral update to the HRC in September on the human rights abuses in Libya, and make recommendations concerning the situation in Libya, to submit it next year.
