The UN Deputy Secretary-General and Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Libya, Georgette Gagnon, stressed the importance of the conference on "Supporting a Comprehensive National Reconciliation and Transitional Justice Process," which comes just weeks before the convening of the National Comprehensive Conference.
In her opening speech before the conference on Monday, Gagnon affirmed the UN's commitment to supporting rights based on the success of national reconciliation and reaching the greatest possible consensus on the fundamental points of disagreement.
The UN official praised all those who gathered for the sake of peace, justice, and reconciliation through working to address the roots of the conflict, focusing on accountability, and the effective participation of victims.
The conference, which is being held in Tripoli, brings together representatives from the Libyan government, civil society, and the international community to discuss support for a comprehensive national reconciliation process in Libya.
