The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) sincerely welcomed an announcement by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (UNHCR), Michelle Bachelet, on the appointment of three ‘independent’ investigators for a rigorous fact-finding mission in Libya.

UNSMIL said in a statement, that the appointment of the investigators, Mohamed Augar from Morocco, Tracy Robinson from Jamaica and Chaloka Bayani from Zambia and the United Kingdom, comes at a time when the Libyan people desire justice and accountability, reaffirming its staunch support for a comprehensive and ‘impartial’ investigation into alleged violations and abuses of international law.

The Mission confirmed its strong support for a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the alleged violations and abuses of international human rights law and international humanitarian law since the beginning of 2016, calling on the Libyan parties to fully cooperate with the investigators.
