The United States Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, David Schenker, said on Thursday that the US is attempting to establish the truth of reports that Khalifa Haftar’s plane was seen landing in the Venezuelan capital, Caracas last week, attempting to conclude an oil deal there.

Schenker expressed his concern regarding the allegations, adding that sanctions set by the US and the United Nations (UN) apply to any entity who export Libyan oil outside the legal supervision of the Libyan National Oil Corporation (NOC).

He also touched on the discovery of mass graves, left by Haftar’s militias as they fled many areas, particularly Tarhuna, expressing his deep concern for the lack of respect for human rights.
