Libya and Qatar have initiated an update to their 2004 air services agreement, making its provisions more flexible to align with developments in civil aviation, according to the Qatar News Agency.

Both parties also signed a memorandum of understanding allowing designated airlines from each country to operate an unspecified number of passenger and cargo flights weekly, using any aircraft, without restrictions.

Mohamed Shelbib, head of Libya's Civil Aviation Authority, said the agreement is part of efforts to revive air traffic in Libyan airspace and connect Libyan airports to the international airline network.

According to Shelbib, a Qatari delegation from the civil aviation authority will arrive in Tripoli in the coming weeks to discuss arrangements for resuming Qatar Airways flights between the two countries.

The deal was signed in the presence of Qatari Minister of Transport Jassim Al-Sulaiti and Libyan Ambassador Mohammed Al-Lafi.

On the sidelines of the signing ceremony, Shelbib discussed bilateral relations in civil aviation with Al-Sulaiti and ways to strengthen them.
