The Administrative Chamber of the South Tripoli Court of Appeal announced the acceptance of the appeal filed against the Speaker of the House of Representatives’ Decision No.15 of 2024 regarding imposing a tax on foreign exchange.

The Court of Appeal explained that it had accepted the appeal in form, and decided, in the urgent part, to temporarily halt the implementation of the contested decision until the matter is decided.

An official source at the Tripoli Court of Appeal confirmed that the ruling was made after confirming the violation of the decision to impose the tax, indicating that the court’s case management would undertake its implementation. The source said that the case file will be transferred to “case preparation,” and the prosecution will express its opinion, and then it will be returned to the administrative department to make the final ruling.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aqila Saleh, issued a decision, based on Central Bank Governor's recommendation, to impose a fee on the official exchange rate of foreign currencies of 27% for all purposes, with the possibility of reducing the price during the period of validity of the decision from the date of its issuance until the end of the current year 2024.
