The summit of the Libyan neighboring countries was cancelled, which was supposed to be held on the margins of the African Union summit in Mauritania, on Monday after the Head of the Presidential Council Fayez Al-Sirraj left the capital Nouakchott in protest of the rejection of some African leaders to condemn the current chaos at the Libyan oil crescent region in their final statement.
Sputnik reported a Mauritanian source as saying that the summit was cancelled after Al-Sirraj and the Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbulli had left, without giving any reasons.
Libya’s Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala chaired Libya’s delegation in the summit after Al-Sirraj had left and the foreign ministry media office said that Sayala would remain in there and meet officials, telling them of the latest developments in Libya.
African Union 31st summit kicked off Sunday under the slogan “Victory in Fighting Corruption” with 22 presidents attending, in addition to prime ministers and ministers from the African countries.
On the summit’s table are the most urgent issues taking place in Africa, including fighting corruption and terrorism plus the African Free Economic Trade Zone, among other issues.
The summit was also going to touch upon the Libyan crisis and the current incidents at the oil region, amid preparations for elections by the end of this year in the country in a sideline summit for the neighboring countries, but the summit was called off.
