The General Company for Water and Sanitation says that the water from wells located in the flood-hit areas in eastern Libya is unsafe to drink.

The company urged dwellers of the affected cities to avoid drinking from the wells after local health authorities reported several cases of poisoning due to water contamination.

Around 55 children were poisoned due to polluted water in Derna after floods mixed clean water with polluted sources, according to Libya's National Disease Control Center.

The company stressed the importance of conducting tests for well waters in the affected areas to ensure they are safe for drinking, disclaiming its liability in case of violating these instructions.

However, it declared the water safe for other uses, such as washing and cleaning.
