The UN envoy to Libya Abdoulaye Bathily said on Twitter he had discussed the political and human rights situation in Libya with Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, in addition to reviewing how to achieve successful elections based on the draft laws produced by the 6+6 joint committee.

"I stressed the importance of preserving the social cohesion for the stability and prosperity of Libya, and for enabling the holding of national elections. We agreed that all actors must work in a spirit of compromise to realise the democratic aspirations of the Libyan people." Bathily added.

Meanwhile, Dbeibah's media office said that he reassured Bathily that elections are the way to meet the aspirations of the Libyan people to end the transitional period and go directly to elections as per fair laws.

The meeting saw a discussion of the latest developments in the political process in the country and ways to advance the electoral process and support the government's momentum in its success. It also touched on the difficulties facing the electoral process and the mechanisms to address them with all relevant parties.
