The Libyan Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah  called on the European Union to provide the necessary support, activate the agreement to control the southern borders of Libya that was signed by the two sides, and increase cooperation in the alternative energy file.

Dbeibah's request came during his meeting with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, on Wednesday at the Commission’s headquarters in Brussels, to follow up on a number of common issues between the EU and Libya.

The meeting focused on following up on the file of illegal immigration and cooperation in the fields of renewable energies, as von der Leyen welcomed the progress achieved in the field of illegal immigration, and the development of cooperation between the European Union and Libya in this file, hailing the cooperation among Malta, Italy and Libya in determining the paths of energy supplies intended to be produced from alternative energy, and the international conference for illegal immigration and border security, which is scheduled to be held in Tripoli in mid-July, with the participation of the relevant European Union member states.

Dbeibah reiterated that Libya was a transit country; not a source one, saying that this had been the basis of cooperation on this file, and stressing that it was necessary for the European Union to provide the needed support, activate the southern border control agreement, and increase joint cooperation in the alternative energy file because of its importance to both sides.

The Minister-designate of Interior, the Head of the Renewable Energy Agency, the Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Libyan Ambassador to the European Union, and the European Union Ambassador to Libya participated in the meeting.
