House of Representatives Speaker, Aqila Saleh has discussed with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, the Acting Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, Stephanie Koury developments in Libya, especially with regard to the developments of the Central Bank of Libya.
The two sides stressed, in a meeting held in Al-Qubba, the need to calm down the situation to ensures that work of the most important financial institution in the country is not adversely affected, and that the formation of the Central Bank’s Board of Directors is proceeded with in accordance with the applicable legislation, according to the spokesman for the HoR, Abdullah Blihaq.
The two sides stressed the need for more efforts and endeavors from various parties to resume the political process, leading to an agreement to unify the executive authority and form a unified government to proceed with organizing presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible, according to Blihaq.
For his part, the Speaker of the House of Representatives stressed the need to continue cooperation and communication with UNSMIL and the international community.
He also expressed the House of Representatives’ commitment to the political agreement and the outcomes of the 6+6 Committee as well as to everything that would end the political division and achieve presidential and parliamentary elections.
In return, Koury confirmed her continuous and serious efforts to rebuild trust between the various parties by bringing viewpoints closer.
