The Chairman of the National Oil Corporation (NOC) Mustafa Sanallah has reiterated that the safety of the oil sector’s workers is paramount, adding that they are working on new security measures to guarantee the safety of all.
“The NOC is working with the security apparatuses and social components in southern Libya on freeing the abducted workers at the oilfield of Sharara so they can return to their families safe and sound.
Sanallah visited on Saturday the oilfield of Sharara and met with the workers of Acacus Company which operates the field.
According to the media office of the NOC, Sanallah checked the ongoing operations in the field and listened to the challenges the workers are facing in the largest Libyan oilfield.
Sanallah also met with some of the social components of the city of Ubari to discuss the security challenges and the kidnap issue.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Security department at the NOC, Abdelsalam Al-Ghaziwi, Acacus CEO Nouri Al-Said, showcased new security measures to protect workers.
The National Oil Corporation shut down production in Sharara oilfield and all workers had been evicted after an attack targeted the field's 186 unit. The attack resulted in the abduction of four engineers, one of whom is Romanian. Later two of the abducted were released, while the other two remained in custody - one Libyan and one Romanian.
