Sustainable Development and Peace Building Forum in Libya

The Sustainable Development and Peace Building Forum in Libya was launched on Thursday under the auspices of the Ministry of Planning of the Government of National Unity and the United Nations, with the participation of Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dbeibah and the UN envoy Abdoulaye Bathily.

Dbeibah said that the will to build, develop, and stabilize the country and prevent wars and fighting is his government's goal, in addition to reaching elections and lasting stability, applauding the cooperation among government institutions, the United Nations and its affiliated organizations, as well as following up on development programs and projects through the ministries of planning and local government, according to a statement by Hakomitna media platform. 

The statement cited Bathily as stressing the need to strengthen cooperation and coordination between the United Nations and government institutions to implement programs and projects that contribute to achieving sustainable development in Libya.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General and the Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator in Libya, Georgette Gagnon, presented her report on the progress of the work of international organizations inside Libya and set the priorities for their work.

The Minister-designate of Planning, Mohammed Al-Zaidani, gave a presentation showing the implementation steps of the United Nations Strategic Framework and the challenges facing them, highlighting the cooperation between international organizations and Libyan government institutions for the success of development programs.

Hakomitna platform said that the ambassadors participating in the Forum hailed the state of stability and development that the country was witnessing, which contributed to accelerating sustainable development programs.

The Forum was attended by foreign ambassadors to Libya, ministers of state for cabinet affairs, local government, economy, finance, labor and rehabilitation, and a number of representatives of international organizations operating in Libya, in addition to heads of a number of relevant government agencies and institutions.
