The Al-Jazeera news channel has quoted informed sources as saying that an Emirati plane bearing the number A6-BND and also the logo of ‘Manchester City Football Club’, landed in the military section of Khartoum airport on Tuesday.
The reliable sources confirmed that it was disembarked by prominent Emirati officials, led by National Security Adviser, Tahnoon Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan to discuss with Sudanese officials methods of supporting Khalifa Haftar, by way of providing mercenaries.
This help from Sudan was sought, after Libyan Army Forces advanced in several strategic fronts in western Libya. Al-Jazeera reported that the Emirati plane departed from Khartoum airport after a five-hour stopover, before returning to Abu Dhabi.
Another Emirati private plane carrying a number of high-ranking Emirati officials landed at Khartoum airport on Saturday, coming from Dubai Airport, stopping over for approximately two hours, before heading for Chad, according to Al-Jazeera sources.
A well-informed source told The Libya Observer last week that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) had asked the leader of the Sudanese Rapid Support Force, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, also known as ‘Hemetti’, to send more of his special forces to Libya.
The source added that Dagalo agreed to send two brigades of his special forces in exchange for the UAE promising significant financial support and the provision of weapons and armored vehicles to him, as part of Abu Dhabi’s endeavours to help Khalifa Haftar continue his fight in Libya.
