High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini has urged Libyan parties to show courage and agree on a Government of National Accord.

In a statement on Thursday, Mogherini reiterated support for the newly appointed UN envoy to Libya Martin Kobler in his efforts to reach a solution to the Libyan crisis.

"We support the UN SRSG in his efforts to garner the necessary support around the Government of National Accord so it can begin the difficult work of restoring stability and preserving the unity of the country." She says.

Mogherini added the EU stands ready to help the new Government of National Accord with a substantial 100 million euro aid package to support the delivering of the urgent services to the Libyan people.

She warned that Libya would face further spread of insecurity and instability if the talks to approve the unity government were stalled.
