The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Government of National Unity began on Sunday the official preparations for drafting the national report scheduled to be discussed before the United Nations Human Rights Council during its 50th session in Geneva.

According to the Ministry, the preparatory meeting was chaired by Taher Al-Baour, head of the report drafting committee, and it was held at the Ministry’s headquarters. It was attended by representatives of relevant national sectors, as well as the Permanent Mission of Libya to the United Nations in Geneva and the Ministry’s Department of International Organizations.

The Ministry explained that the meeting, which comes as part of Libya’s commitment to strengthening the human rights system and its continued cooperation with relevant international mechanisms, discussed developing a comprehensive action plan aimed at collecting data and information from various national bodies in preparation for drafting the final version of the report in accordance with international standards and reflecting progress made in the field of human rights in Libya.

The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Taher Al-Baour, reaffirmed the Ministry’s full commitment to providing all forms of support and overcoming any obstacles to ensure the report is prepared on time. He emphasized that this obligation is an important milestone for renewing Libya’s commitment to its international pledges and enhancing its human rights standing on the international stage.
