The medical staff at outpatient clinic of Al-Jalaa Hospital for Women and Childbirth in Tripoli have gone on strike over security fears after an armed group attempted to arrest an on-duty nurse.

Sources from the hospital said a security force loyal to the Presidential Council stormed the outpatient clinic on Wednesday morning to arrest the nurse over claims that the latter had quarrelled with the wife of one of the security force’s personnel.

“The force claimed that the nurse had yelled at one of the patients who came out to be the wife of one of the armed men,” a doctor has said.

Eyewitnesses said three cars labelled “Central Security Force” cordoned off the hospital while several gunmen broke into the clinic, causing panic among the patients.

The medical staff said in a statement that work at the outpatient clinic will be suspended until a thorough investigation into the incident is conducted.

The director of the hospital Dr. Al-Makki Al-Said has called on the Minister of Health to intervene to ensure total safety for the medical staff.
