Benghazi Municipality said on Sunday that US Chargé d'Affaires Jeremy Brendt expressed, during his meeting with the Director General of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund, Belgassim Khalifa Haftar, Washington's readiness to support the Fund's management efforts that are aimed at achieving reconstruction and development in Libya.

Belgassim Haftar received, at the headquarters of the Libya Development and Reconstruction Fund in the city of Benghazi, the Chargé d'Affaires of the US Embassy in Libya, Jeremy Brendt, accompanied by a high-level delegation from the embassy, in the presence of the Chairman of the Benghazi Municipality's Steering Council, Al-Saqr Boujwari, and the Chairman of the Reconstruction and Stability Committee, Hatem Al-Araibi.

The Municipality of Benghazi said on its Facebook page that the meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation with US institutions and companies in addition to involving the US institutions in the reconstruction programs targeted by the Fund, in addition to talking about the existing projects in Benghazi: the Sports City project, and the reconstruction of the area in Al-Sabri and Souq Al-Hout, infrastructure projects, and the reconstruction of the University of Benghazi.

The meeting discussed reconstruction projects within the city of Derna and the cities affected by the floods, as well as the cities and regions of southern Libya, which suffers from infrastructure problems that have not been solved for a long time due to the negligence of the successive governments.

The Municipality added that Belgassim Haftar stressed the importance of joint cooperation between the two parties, calling on the US Charge d'Affaires and his accompanying delegation to visit the city of Derna to see the progress achieved since the flood.
