The Internal Security Agency of the eastern authority in Benghazi has arrested Professor, Al-Qasim Al-Obeidi, known for his calls for peaceful reform.
People familiar with the incident said Al-Obeidi was arrested and beaten by the security services in front of his family on Tuesday evening before they seized his car.
Activists in Benghazi and elsewhere voiced their outrage at Al-Obeidi's arrest, saying he was a well-known advocate of reform and peace.
They called for his immediate release and to let him spend the Eid with his family.
It may be worth noting that Al-Obeidi is a professor of geography at the University of Benghazi and also lectures students at the university's branches in Al-Murra, Derna, Ajdabiya, and Al-Abyar.
