The Assistant Chief of Staff of the Libyan Army, Salah Al-Namroush, gave instructions to army units to raise the level of readiness to repel any possible attack, according to a military source from the General Staff.
While the Joint Operations Force, affiliated with the Government of National Unity, asked its members to "immediately be present at the force headquarters with all their equipment and gear," noting that the matter is of utmost importance.
The National Support Forces Authority, also affiliated with the Government of National Unity, also called on all members of its combat units to join their units as soon as possible, calling on combat units to raise the level of readiness to the maximum.
The Authority explained in a circular published on its Facebook page that this step aimed to "confront any threats aimed at destabilizing security in any region of the country, whether from terrorist or criminal organizations, outlaw groups, mercenaries, or those who threaten the security of any Libyan city."
On Wednesday, Haftar's forces announced the movement of military units to the southwestern regions of Libya. The "Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces" affiliated with Haftar's forces, headed by his son Saddam, said that the movements were part of a larger plan to secure the southern borders.
Brigade 444 clashed with an armed group that it said at the time was involved in smuggling on the border, but sources close to the brigade confirmed that the military force was mostly made up of Russian fighters affiliated with the Wagner Group, which was working to secure its movements on the southern borders of Libya to facilitate the arrival of support for their forces that had been engaged in violent clashes with fighters in northern Mali.
