Five political activists have been arrested in Sirte city, where Khalifa Haftar's militias hold sway, Libya Crime Watch (LCW) has confirmed.

According to LCW, the activists, who were members of the "Together for the Homeland" party, were escorted to the city's security directorate.

Their arrest was against the backdrop of their intention to hold an awareness seminar on the elections, as they requested security approval from the local authorities to organize the gathering, the organization said.

"Such practices constitute a flagrant violation of human rights, fundamental freedoms, and international principles that guarantee freedom of expression and political participation."

It called for their immediate and unconditional release and stressed the need to respect political freedom and expression.
