The spokesman for the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR), Abdullah Blehiq, denied Wednesday the news circulated by local media outlets about the leave request of Speaker Aqila Saleh for three months to prepare for presidential elections.
Blehiq told Anadolu News Agency that the news isn't true and Saleh is still working as usual.
Local media said Saleh wanted a three-month leave to run for Libya presidential elections in December. This was confirmed by a number of HoR members, like Saleh Efhema, who is loyal to Saleh. He said Tuesday on Clubhouse platform that the HoR Speaker asked for a leave after the withdrawal of confidence in the government and that his deputy Fawzi Al-Nuwairi would replace him until after elections.
The HoR unilaterally approved presidential elections law that can allow Saleh and others to run for the president position if elections took place on December 24.
The law allows political and military positions' occupants to run for elections if they left their jobs three months prior to December 24. If they failed to be elected, they can return to their jobs and get their three months' salaries.
