The Ministry of Interior of the Government of National Unity has announced the launching of an immediate and thorough investigation into an incident involving a group of fans being run over inside Tripoli Sports City (Tripoli International Stadium). The incident came to light through a video circulated on social media, showing a security vehicle running over several fans at the scene.
In an official statement, the ministry said the acting Minister of Interior issued urgent instructions to conduct a detailed investigation to determine responsibility. It confirmed that the vehicle involved and its driver have been identified and apprehended, and all necessary legal measures have been taken.
The ministry stressed that the incident was an “individual act that does not reflect the ministry’s approach or policies,” adding that it will not hesitate to hold those involved accountable and ensure justice for the victims. It noted that the event occurred amid an assault by some fans on police patrols, and that the police sought to avoid escalation and leave the scene.
Reaffirming its full commitment to security, legal, and humanitarian standards in the performance of its duties, the ministry said it remains dedicated to protecting citizens and ensuring their safety. It also called on the public to remain calm and verify information before sharing it, pending the outcome of the investigation. It pledged full transparency and promised to update the public as soon as further details become available.
