The Tunisian Foreign Minister, Khemaies Jhinaoui, the Algerian Minister of Maghreb Affairs, the African Union and the Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel, and the Egyptian Foreign Minister, Sameh Shoukry, signed in Tunisia Monday a ministerial agreement that pushes for a comprehensive solution to the Libyan political deadlock, rejecting any foreign intervention or military solutions in Libya.
The three ministers talked about the efforts they had exerted in a bid to find a consensus from all of the Libyan conflicting parties regarding the agreement signed in Tunis.
“We have agreed to pursue efforts to strike a comprehensive national reconciliation as part of a Libyan-Libyan political dialogue with the assistance of Egypt, Algeria and Tunisia and under the auspices of the United Nations.” The ministers highlighted.
The final statement of the meeting stressed the importance of maintaining Libya’s sovereignty and unity, adding that the county’s crisis can only be resolved by a political solution and never a military one or foreign intervention-based solutions.
They also said that all Libyan civil state institutions must remain unified as per the political agreement’s laws.
The statement also underscored that the three countries will continue to coordinate with Libyan political parties on the ministerial level to try to overcome the hurdles facing resolving the crisis.
“The results of the meeting will be delivered to the Egyptian, Tunisian and Algerian presidents.” The statement reads, adding that the UN and the Arab League’s Secretary Generals as well as the Chairperson of the African Union Commission will also be reported of the meeting’s results, as the agreement signed by the three countries is considered official at those organizations.
