The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohammed Menfi, has called on the country’s leaders to avoid political exploitation of the flood disaster that swept a number of areas in eastern Libya, saying in a video statement published by his media office on Tuesday evening that such an exploitation can affect efforts of relief response.
"We must all come together from all regions with one hand and one heart to confront this ordeal and alleviate the suffering of our fellow citizens. Such adversities and disasters always remind us of the importance of solidarity and cooperation." Menfi added.
Menfi thanked all friendly countries for providing assistance and all countries that offered condolences to the flood victims, saying his Council was coordinating with countries and international organizations to provide urgent aid to those affected by Storm Daniel in order to save what can be saved and mitigate the damage in the eastern region.
Menfi said that he had agreed with the Prime Minister, Abdul Hamid Dbeibah, to allocate emergency funds to support relief and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas through the relevant fund to be approved at the first meeting of the High Financial Committee.
