The Netherlands has opened a diplomatic office in Tripoli as a first step towards full return, the European country’s Ambassador to Libya Eric Strating announces.
In a tweet on Thursday, he said the opening of the diplomatic office means permanent Dutch diplomatic presence in Tripoli by the Ambassador or his diplomatic staff.
“The Embassy will remain in Tunis for the time being”. He further explained.
Following the opening of the diplomatic office, Ambassador Strating met with Chairman of the Presidential Council Fayaz Sirraj and Foreign Minister Mohammed Sayala to thank them for the support they gave to the opening of the Dutch diplomatic office.
The Dutch Embassy left Tripoli in 2014.
Ambassador Strating arrived Wednesday at Mitiga Airport. The Diplomatic Police of the Presidential Council declared that he came to announce the reopening of his country’s embassy.
